A team of pre-AP sophomores representing WMHS won high honors in this year's Word Wright Challenge, a national competition for high school students requiring close reading and analysis of many different kinds of prose and poetry. Participating with 647 school teams from all across the country, the school's tenth graders placed fifth in the nation among all the teams competing at this grade level. Several of the school's students won highest honors for individual achievement as well: Dalton Gonnillini and Jacob Stockley both earned perfect scores in the category of prose fiction, where nationwide only 22 tenth graders did so.

Others who achieved outstanding results in prose fiction were Connor Broussard, Drew Dollar, Cheyanne Hobbs, Gracie May, and Rachael Smith.

Caleb Corrent and Rachael Smith placed among the 145 highest-scoring tenth graders in the entire country in the category of nonfiction.
