Seniors, it's time to begin applying for merit scholarships for your 2018 freshman year of college. Priority Scholarship deadlines are quickly approaching, so remember to visit the web site of your chosen university for application requirements and deadlines.


The Priority Scholarship Deadline for McNeese State University is November 15. If you are interested in attending McNeese State and have not applied, go towww.mcneese.edu and fill out your application.


If LSU is your school of choice, the Louisiana State University - Baton RougePriority Scholarship Deadline and Honors College is November 15also. Be sure to go to online at www.lsu.edu to apply.


Juniors: Don't forget that the Graduate Shop will be on campus during both lunch shifts on Thursday, October 19th

to accept your graduation ring order form and $100 deposit. They will be set up in the hallway by Student Services.


Johnny's Pizza Pig Out will be held on Tuesday, October 17th from5-8 p.m.at both Warren Drive and Wallace Road locations. Please come out and support the library and technology for our school.


The Art Club meeting will beTuesday after school in Mrs. Ganley's room 1109. There will be a business meeting for the first 10 minutes and then a fun Fall/Halloween painting activity until 4:15. You are not required to stay for the painting activity. Bring your own paint brushes. Please come and sign up for the painting activity as soon as possible. See Mrs. Ganley for details.


The Louisiana AFL-CIO will be awarding three $1,000 scholarships at their 63rd Annual Convention in March 2018. To be eligible to enter this essay contest, allcontestants must be high school seniors residing in the State of Louisiana whose parent/step parent is a member of an affiliated local union in good standing with the Louisiana AFL-CIO.If you are a senior and you are interested in more information, stop by the guidance office and pick up a packet. All application materials must be postmarked byJanuary 5, 2018.


Students if you a Senior or Junior and are interested in a healthcare career, A-HEC has some opportunities for you. There will be four one day field trips to local colleges that will allow you to get a closer look at medical degrees that they offer. Colleges that are included are LSU Health Shreveport, LA Tech, Northwestern, and ULM. If you are interested, grab a application form outside of room 3101, complete the form, and mail it to the address listed before November 3rd.


Applications are open for the ACT Student Champion Award! The ACT Student Champion Award recognizes one student in each state who is tenacious and persistent, no matter the challenge, and is prepared for life after high school with a goal in mind and plan in place.


ACT Student Champions receive a $500 non-renewable scholarship, certificate, plaque, and state-level recognition.Applications can be found atwww.act.org/readinesschampions. More information can be found in the guidance office.

Applications are due December 31, 2017, and champions will be notified on or before April 2, 2018

This past weekend the results for LA-ACDA and LMEA All State were finalized. A number of students were selected from West Monroe High School. The 19 studentsLA-ACDA selections were:

Hailey Owens, Jaylyn Graves, Shaivi Bominanni, Nathan Ott, Joseph McMahan, James McMahan, Trenton Storm, Jamari James, Graham Stephenson, Sam Miller, Chloe Dustin, Nina Williams,Brai Block, Sierra Shoemaker, Sarah Littleton, Brooke BeDoit, Lanie Scott, GraceWaren, and Annalee Watson.


The 22 students selected to LMEA All State were:

Sierra Shoemaker, Kelly Cole, Laura Beth Moore, Breanna White, Faith Stansbury, Morgan Oden, Cara Ramos, Courtney Cavender, Jade Parker, Alyssa Freeman, Lauren Hartt, Brooke BeDoit, Mary Grace Dupuy, Paige Freeman, Lindsey Thornton, Ashtyn Ingram, Sarah Adams, Caleb Norman, Nathan Newsom, Chad Many, Graham Scarborough, and David Myers.


The 22 members selected to LMEA All State is the most of any high school in Louisiana. 41 All State members selected to All State is a nice number and is a testament to the hard work and talent of our students at West Monroe High School.

Student Council will be selling Class Shirts today through nextFriday, October 27th. The shirts will be soldon the Boardwalk during both lunch shifts. The shirts are comfort colors and each grade will be in a different color. Short sleeve shirts will be sold for $12.00 and long sleeve shirts will be sold for $15.

$5.00 from every shirt sold will go to the Student Council State Charity which is theMuscular Dystrophy Association of Louisiana. Please buy a shirt and support a great cause!


The PSAT will be given at West Monroe High School on

Wednesday, October 25th during the morning hours. All students

in 10th or 11th grade honors classes are strongly encouraged to

take this test. Registration ends on Friday, October 20 th . The fee

is $20.00 and students should register with their English teacher.
