October is College Application Month for the state of Louisiana.The counseling team wants to do everything we can to help you follow your dreams.We have a month filled with great activities to support you, so listen carefully to the morning announcements each day. We will be sharing interesting facts, reminding you of deadlines and offering opportunities for you get help for completing your college applications.We will even have some informative guest speakers on site throughout the month.

You may have already noticed that your teachers were in college t-shirts yesterday.We will have Alma Mater Mondays throughout October.Talk to your teachers about where they attended college and why they made the choice to attend a particular place of higher learning.Remember that they have been where you are.

Seniors, thanks for wearing your college shirts with pride yesterday. We look forward to seeing you in a college shirt EVERY Monday in October.Every Wednesday, Lab #2102 will be open for periods 5, 6 and 7 for you to get help completing college applications. A counselor will be there for support. Some college representatives will join us too. Don't Delay. Great prizes are at stake here.

Congratulations to Adrianna Ruel.She has been accepted to Louisiana Tech with a Merit Scholarship totaling $8,000.Remember that everyone should apply early in order to be eligible for Merit scholarships offered by most colleges and universities.Also keep in mind that there is no limit to how much money you can get for scholarships.Apply. Apply. Apply.

Congratulations to the Air Force Junior ROTC teams who competed at the Regional Drill Meet hosted by Airline High School on this past Saturday

West Monroe took 1st place in Armed Regulation Drill led by Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Jaiden Nordstrom

1st place in Unarmed Regulation Drill led by Cadet first lieutenant Tiffany Carter

1st place in Unarmed Honor Guard led by Cadet First Lieutenant Skylar Allen

3rd place in armed inspection led by Cadet First Lieutenant Tiffany Carter

and 3rd place in the academic challenge led by Cadet First Lieutenant Colton Byrd.

Tickets for Homecoming Dancewill goon sale on October 3rd. Tickets are only sold to WMHSstudents with ID. Tickets will be sold until Thursday, October 11th. Tickets will only be sold during lunch. If you are a Senior that leaves after 3rd period, please make plans to return to school at lunch. One ticket is $15. You must have either a school ID, state ID or driver's license to purchase a ticket. Students are allowed to bring a date if they purchase an additional ticket and bring the proper ID and paperwork for them. 

Club picture day will be tomorrow, October 3rd in the auditorium. Check with your sponsor for your group's time. Please arrive five minutes early for your photo. 

History Club members from last year, There will be no history club picture this year. If you have any questions about the status of the club, please see Mr. Mercer in room 1221.

If you are not taking French, but are in the French club, please go by room 2203 today to pick up your t-shirt for pictures on Wednesday. There is a Frenchclub meeting on Thursday morning starting at 7:20.

The Louisiana AFL-CIO will be awarding three $1,000 scholarships in March.  Seniors - one of these could be yours.  Check out the criteria in the guidance area of our school website - 

Today is the first day that Room #2102 will be open for College Application assistance.  Someone will be available to help every step of the way.  If you don’t even know where to begin, we can show you.  If you don’t need help but do need a computer to complete the process then come on by as well.  The lab will be open between 11:49 and 3:30. Don’t delay.  Apply to college today!  Remember, if you cannot be on time, then be early.

Mary Peterson from Louisiana Delta Community College will be on campus today. If you have questions about what is available at our local community college, you can see her during lunch.  She will be upstairs on Wing 4 just outside of the English classrooms.

Congratulations to Jaiden Nordstrom.  She has been accepted to Louisiana Tech with a summer scholarship offer of over $3,400.  You know what they say – The early bird catches the worm.

All Business English students will be setting up their FSA ID tomorrow.  School attendance is critical. This ID will enable you to apply for Federal Financial Aid for College.  Some students will be eligible for just over $6,000.  All other seniors will be setting up their FSA ID next week on October 11.  Remember that completing the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid is now a graduation requirement.  You will need to have an Email address, so be sure to set one up if you don’t have one already. 

Club picture day is today in the auditorium.  Please make sure to report five minutes early.

"For any students interested in joining the Math Club, there will be a meeting next Wednesday, October 10, after school in Mrs. Smith’s room (4106). The meeting will cover the objectives of the club as well as give information on the application deadline and the club’s remind code. Whether you are good at math, or are fighting to get by, this is the club for you."
