Attention students who like to design or draw. The art department is sponsoring a contest for the Relay for Life tee shirt design. If chosen, your design will appear on all Relay for Life tee shirts. Think of that. Your art for all to see.The theme is "Laissez Le Bon Temps Relay!" Bring your design ideas to Mrs. Ganley in art room 1109. Regular 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper is fine. It can be in pencil, pen or color.We are holding the contest for one week so your designs are due on Friday February 23.

 

Coach Osborne's next driver's ed class will start on Monday March 19th which is the day we get back from Spring Break. You must be registered before that day. You can start signing up today in the PE gym. The cost is 295.00 and must be paid by cash or a money order.

 

Today, you should vote on class favorites, senior most likely to, and faculty favorites in your 2nd period class. Please only fill out a form if you plan to vote thoughtfully. Teachers, a yearbook staff member will come by to collect your folder during 5th period.Orchestra members, if your parents have pictures of you performing during homecoming or your Christmas concert, please email Miss Kiper at kiper@opsb.net for your chance to be featured in the yearbook. Please send us a caption with your name and grade.

The Calhoun High School Alumni Association Scholarship application is now available in Guidance and online. Applicants must be legally related to a graduate of Calhoun High School and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better. You must have documented plans to further your education at a college, university, community college, or trade school. All applicants must write a 1-2 page essay on "A Controversial Problem Faced On School Campuses and Suggest Solutions."Applications must be posted marked no later than April 5, 2018.

 

The Rebel golf team won the season opening golf tournament of the 2018 golf season. The Rebels hosted the NELA Open sponsored by Glenwood Regional Medical Center at Calvert Crossing. The team score was 328, Leading the Rebels was Joey Kirkland with a 77. Other scores were: Jacob Slaughter 81, Porter Tuberville 83 and Tyler Bell 87. the Rebel JV team placed third with a team score of 352. James McMahan lead the team with an 81. Others were John Adam Lengefeld 86, Joseph McMahan 92, and Chandler Van 93. the Rebels will be in action again this Saturday. They play in the Trails End High School Classic in Arcadia. Joey Kirkland will be playing in a select invitation only tournament, The Gator Invitational at the Country Club of Jackson. James McMahan and Joseph McMahan will be playing in a two day USSSA tournament at Greystone Golf Club in Denham Springs, Louisiana. Congratulations to the team and good luck Saturday!

 

The WMHS Mock Trial team will be featured on KNOE TV next Thursday on Good Morning Ark-la-miss. The station is holding a competition between 5 schools in the parish (WOHS, Richwood, Sterlington, St. Fred's and WMHS) for who has the best programs at their school. PLEASE go online to www.knoe.com or download the app and vote for WMHS! The winning school will receive an invitation to appear on Good Morning Ark-la-miss and a trophy to display at the school. 

 

If you are a senior who is pursuing a college degree and will serve the nation through National Guard/Reserve or College ROTC, this scholarship is one you will be interested in. Applications for the Pelican Patriots Memorial Scholarship are now available in the guidance office and on our website. The deadline for applying is March 16, 2018, so get yours today.

 

These are some Priority Deadlines that are Approaching:If you are planning to attend Northwestern State University, their upcoming priority scholarship deadline is March 1.University of Louisiana Lafayette is hosting a preview day on March 18. Xavier University freshmen application deadline is in March and their Preview Day is March 25.

 

National Honor Society Induction Ceremony practice will be Friday, February 23 during 1st period. All current members and inductees must attend this mandatory practice in the auditorium. Please release these students as soon as possible. Practice will take most of the hour.Teachers a list of students who must attend this practice will be sent to you in an email. New National Honor Society member dues must be paid online by Friday at 3:00. The link is on the opsb.net site. Look for a purple dollar sign.
